It’s getting hotter. Fact.
The clever people at the Met Office have noticed this and have dragged out all of the temperature data they have for the last 235 years in central England, and then compared each year to the average temperature between 1961 and 1990.
And they have made this pretty, and quite scary, graph of what has been going on.

They’ve also done the above graph showing the hottest years on record, starting on the left and going right as they get cooler. The Met Office have kindly colour-coded them in blocks of time. So as you can see, all the red ones come first (1990-2005) followed by the orange ones (1970-1989) mixed with a few from the next years etc etc etc. So it’s definitely getting warmer. And it’s happening quickly. Scary isn’t it.
They’ve found out a few other things too. 2007 was the second warmest year on record, and the last six years have been the six hottest years on record in the UK.
The Met Office finished their overview of 2007 weather with this -
“As the impacts of climate change begin to take hold the Met Office is ready to help governments and business prepare for and adapt to a changing climate and to help you make the most of what 2008 has to hold. “
That’s very kind of them to want to help us adapt – the thing is that governments and business don’t seem to bothered at the moment, which worries me.
It’s getting hot in here. We should probably do something about it.
Now.
